Give Yourself   Leave a comment

And they exceeded our expectations: They gave themselves first of all to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us (2 Corinthians 8:5).

Recently, a team went to Haiti to start building a new schoolhouse for the children at Colmini. The sun reflected off the sand in the desert community, and it caused the Americans to be aware of their water consumption and staying out of the elements. Yet the Haitians served in the sun without complaint, dedicated to seeing the building rise up. They worked early in the morning and they were still working when the Americans needed to get back to the base. Haitians work for the Lord. When they do, they give it their all.

Have you worked, giving your all, first to the Lord? Let it be a gentle challenge. Work hard for the Lord by working for the Haitian believers. Learning how you can help them by visiting the Hope for Haiti website.

Sa depase sa nou te kwè a anpil: yo ofri tèt yo bay Seyè a anvan. Apre sa, yo ofri tèt yo ban nou jan Bondye vle l’ la (2 Korint 8:5).

Water, Part 1   2 comments

“You care for the land and water it;
you enrich it abundantly.
The streams of God are filled with water
to provide the people with grain,
for so you have ordained it” (Psalm 65:9).

When it rains, what do you do first?

In Haiti, grab a towel. Not because the water is leaking into your house, but because it’s time for a shower. God supplies water, and Haitians use every last drop. While you’re busy washing your hair, set out buckets to capture the water to use later. Cisterns–large containers–can store the water for you. Still, the water has to be collected and then put into the cistern.

Capturing Water

Using the water coming off of a roof and falling into the large blue bucket, this man used a five gallon bucket and then poured it into the PBC piping that led to the cistern. Some communities don’t have a cistern. Learn how you can be part of projects that restore cisterns at the Projects page of the Hope for Haiti website.

God provides water, enriching the land, and giving us ways to survive. When it rains, what do you do? Try praising the Lord for the abundance of his goodness.

Bondye, ou fè lapli tonbe an kantite sou latè. Ou ba li fòs ankò, paske li te fin pèdi tout grès li. Sòm 68:9.

Haiti Shores

Haiti Shores

“The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice” (Psalm 97:1).

Haiti is a beautiful country. It has warm shores and clear water. The gentle wind shakes the palm tree leaves, sounding like they are praising the Lord in song. The earth is glad because the Lord reigns. Shores that may be far from us rejoice. Let’s join them.

-Se Seyè a ki wa! Se pou tout moun ki sou latè fè kè yo kontan! Se pou moun ki nan tout zile yo fè fèt! (Som 97:1)

Rejoice!

Rejoice!
